Amarone style This unique winemaking style, known as Amarone originally developed at Valpolicella in Italy. The process involves desiccating premium quality grapes to capture the intense colour and flavour found in the skins. Asara Avalon is a twist on Amarone, that takes advantage of the elements of our South African terroir.
At the age of 22, these vines are the oldest on the farm and planted at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level. East-facing rows enable direct sun exposure on the bunch zone once a day. The soil type is Oakleaf, structured and well drained, creating good nutrient transfers to the bunches due to the ideal pH balance of the soil.
The Merlot vineyards are planted at 130m above sea-level in cool nutrient-rich Tukulu soil. Located on a crest, the vineyards receive constant exposure to the sun, contributing to ripeness and richness of flavour in the grapes. To increase sunlight exposure while still giving adequate shade, the leaves are picked out twice.
Our wine range is carefully curated to showcase the very best of what South Africa’s vineyards have to offer. From the rich, bold flavors of Shiraz to the delicate, zesty citrus notes of a Sauvignon Blanc, we’ve got something for every palate. And because we work with some of the most talented winemakers in the industry, you can be sure that each bottle in our range is of the highest quality.
