Day Trip To Hout Bay

Hout Bay is a fabulous seaside locale in Cape Town. There is something for everyone here. No matter when you visit, you will find a great selection of places to eat and drink and more than enough to keep you busy all day long.

Where To Eat

The whole area is well known for its restaurants. Here are some of our favorites that we think you should visit:

Massimo’s – This is the place to come for a fun and relaxed meal out. The pizzas are out of this world. When it comes to dessert they really step it up, with chocolate fondue and dessert pizzas.

Mariner’s Wharf – No visit to the seaside is really complete without a great meal of fish and chips. This restaurant has been around since 1984. You can get both a great meal and a souvenir.

Hout Bay Vineyards – this great little boutique winery has been open since 2001. It would be a real shame to miss out on visiting this lovely vineyard. You can arrange to have a private tasting, or if you visit on one of their open days then why not have a picnic on their beautiful lawn.

What To Do

There is a great range of activities in the city. There is something for everyone:

If you are a fan of birds then you should check out the world of birds. It is the largest bird park in Africa. The tropical setting is a fantastic place to learn all about the over 400 species that are homed here.

If the weather is on your side, why not take a boat ride to Duiker Island? On your ride, you can see the majestic kelp forests and all the sea life. Or you can keep your feet on the ground and take a walking tour. There is a free tour available.

If you have the time you should check out a wonderful store called Original Tea Bag Designs. The store hires disadvantaged women. They train them to create the products sold in the store. All of the items they make are either made of or feature dried teabags.
